During this tour you will feel the atmosphere of Dostoevsky’s Saint-Petersburg, you will make a visit to one of the flats where he lived with his children and his second wife Ann before his death in January 1881. The Dostoevsky museum tour guide will tell you the story of his everyday life and show you his cabinet where he wrote his latest novel “The Brothers Karamazov”.
After the tour to Dostoevsky Museum you will see the Vladimirskaya Church – practicing Russian Orthodox Church where in 1881 there was the burial service dedicated to Dostoevsky. On the square in front of it you will find a monument to this famous writer, erected in 1997, and a subway station named after Dostoevsky, which shows the atmosphere of his novels.
After a short subway ride you will proceed to Sennaya square (“Hay Market square”) – the area “inhabited” by the characters from the most famous Dostoevsky’s novel “Crime and Punishment”. Your tour guide will show you the way to the building where Raskolnikov lived, then you will have a short walk to the house where his friend poor Sonya Marmeladova rented a flat and after that you will follow the Raskolnikov’s route (murderer’s route) to the house of the old pawnbroker woman whom he slaughtered.
During the tour you will also pass more houses where Fyodor Dostoevsky rented different flats because Saint-Petersburg was his favorite city notwithstanding the fact that he was born in Moscow and spent there 16 years.
