One of the largest collections of art by French Impressionists and Post-Impressionists was originally exhibited in the main building of The State Hermitage museum, but 4 years ago it was moved to the fourth floor of the General Staff Building, designed as Modern Art museum. It is not far from the original location but nowadays tourists need additional tickets booked in advance apart from the Hermitage museum tour to see this famous Hermitage Impressionists exhibition.
This Hermitage Impressionists collection features masterpieces by Claude Monet, Pierre-August Renoir, Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Paul Cezanne, Paul Gauguin, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, Pablo Picasso and other famous artists. On the whole, Hermitage’s Impressionists exposition consists of nearly 850 works of art, including those which were received after Russian Revolution from private collection of two wealthy Moscow merchants – Sergei Shchukin and Ivan Morozov. Another part of the exhibition was originally displayed in 1995 and consisted of paintings taken from Germany after World War II, still nowadays these works of art are known as “Hidden treasures of the Hermitage museum”. During thisguided tour to Hermitage impressionists collection you will discover all of them as well as some paintings by Russian 20 century artists such as Kazimir Malevich and Vasiliy Kandinsky.
