DAY 1 – Your Trans Siberian Railway Tour begins at the Moscow airport where you will be met by ShowmeRussia team and escorted to your hotel. DAY 2 – After a substantial breakfast you will meet with your private guide in the hotel lobby and start exploring the central Moscow. You will learn Russian history from your guide, find out interesting facts of Moscow tourism, explore the very heart of Russia – Moscow Kremlin with its red-brick walls, towers, the Tsar Bell, the Tsar Canon, several churches and cathedrals including the Cathedral of the Dormition, the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael where all Muscovite Monarchs from Ivan Kalita to Alexis I are burried. You will admire the grand Kremlin Palace, the Armoury building and the Arsenal on the territory of the Kremlin. On the same day you will also visit Saint Basil’s Cathedral on the Red Square. It is a perfect example of Russian traditional wooden and stone architecture constructed in the middle of the 16th century. This tour will be performed over the course of 5 hours on foot. Lunch is not included in the price of the tour but you may ask your guide to show you the best place to try Russian cuisine.
DAY 3 – Following breakfast your private guide will meet you in the hotel lobby with the sign of our company and your name on it and will continue the sightseeing tour around the main parts of Moscow. This time you will explore one of the most popular means of transport – Moscow Metro which is also referred to as Underground Palace. Every station is like a museum. Your guide will show you the most beautiful stations opened during Soviet Times from the 1930’s to 1950’s as well as the modern ones. Nowadays there are more than 200 stations and the majority of them show fabulous examples of Russian and Soviet art – mosaics, paintings, sculptures, bas-reliefs and crystal chandeliers. By way of the Metro you will get closer to the Old Arbat Street (Stary Arbat) – local shopping and cultural hub with dozens of restaurants, cafes, gift shops, monuments and examples of street art which reflect the culture of Moscow and its atmosphere. This tour will last 4 hours.
DAY 4 – It’s time to move further along the Trans Siberian express to the 4th largest Russian town Yekaterinburg so after breakfast you will be transferred to the railway station and get on the train which departs from Moscow at 16:38. The duration of the train trip will be nearly 25 hours so make yourself comfortable and enjoy the view from the window of your compartment to Russian forests, small villages, and towns.
DAY 5 – After the comfortable and relaxing train trip you will be met in Yekaterinburg Railway Station at 20:04 and our driver will transport you to the hotel. Following check-in you will have a free time to become oriented in your new location.
DAY 6 – Following breakfast you will be met by the local tour guide in your hotel and your sightseeing tour around Yekaterinburg will begin. You will discover the main square of the city, the monument to Lenin, 19th century tenants’ houses and modern buildings, the Iset river, the Cathedral on the Blood which stands on the place of Ipatiev House, where the remaining members of Russia’s last Royal Family were executed. You will also find out why Yekaterinburg is said to be the border between Europe and Asia so don’t forget to take a picture standing in front of the obelisk and the line which divides Europe from Asia. During the tour you will also see the Ganina Yama Monastery constructed on the place of the pit where the remains of the last Russian Tsar Nicholas II with his family were found in 1998. This special memorial to Romanov family was constructed in 2000 in old Russian style of wooden architecture without using any nails. Please, don’t forget to put on a scarf or any other headcover and a long skirt (for ladies) and trousers (for gentlemen) in order to show respect for local customs and traditions of Russian Orthodox Churches.
DAY 7 – In the morning you will have breakfast in the hotel, then we will make a transfer for you to the railway station in Yekaterinburg and we will show you to the train which leaves at 11:52. You will spend nearly two days on the train to Irkutsk, passing through Siberia and taiga forests and rivers. It is one of the most beautiful areas of Russia.
DAY 8 – You will spend this day on the train. Total duration of your journey from Yekaterinburg to Irkutsk will be 54 hours. It is a very pleasant train ride during which you can meet lots of fellow travellers, learn more about Russians and their character, see other small Russian towns on the way to Irkutsk, and admire expansive and diverse Russian nature from the comfort of your train car.
DAY 9 – In the evening after your arrival to Irkutsk Railway Station at 20:47, you will be driven to your hotel and after the check-in you will have a free time to admire the surroundings and to see this marvellous town at night.
DAY 10 – The tour to discover one of the largest cities in Siberia now begins. After breakfast you will have a 3-hour city tour on a private car or minivan. During the tour you will learn the history of Irkutsk, you will enjoy the central part of the city, the Angara River embankment, the monument to Alexander III (under his rule the Trans Siberian Railway was finally constructed), Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, the Epiphany Cathedral, the catholic cathedral and the oldest stone Church of Our Saviour. You will also have a stroll along the main street of the city – the Karl Marks Street, the main square named after Kirov. Continuing the tour you will visit the Taltsy open-air Museum of wooden Russian architecture on the way to Listvyanka village. Some of the wooden huts, schools, churches represented in the museum were built up in 17th-20th centuries by Siberian peasants. You will have lunch there in the authentic Russian restaurant and a free time to walk around and visit all the wooden houses inside to see the living conditions, wooden furniture, kitchen utensils and other household goods used by Siberian people. After that you will have a trip to your hotel in Listvyanka village on the shore of Baikal Lake.
DAY 11 – Following breakfast you will be met by your private local guide in the hotel lobby and start your tour to Lake Baikal. You will enjoy the interesting Baikal Limnological Museum where you will discover an aquarium complex with living creatures from Lake Baikal including the famous mammal – Baikal Seal. You will also visit the local market and try the local Omul smoked fish. After that your private guide and your driver will take you to the most picturesque area of the Baikal Lake – Cherskogo Mountain Peak or Gora Cherskogo, with a summit peak of 2,297 ft. This place was named after the Polish-born explorer who charted much of Siberia, Ivan Chersky. From the observation platform travellers can see the most beautiful panorama of the Lake Baikal, the river Angara and the Shaman Mountain inhabited, according to legend, by a mystical river spirit.
DAY 12 – This is the end of your Short Trans Siberian Express, after breakfast you will travel out to the Irkutsk Airport.
