DAY 1 -Our Trans Mongolian Tours are usually started at Moscow airport where ShowmeRussia team meets tourists and organizes transfers to their hotels. DAY 2 – After breakfast you will meet with your private local guide in the hotel lobby and start exploring the central part of Moscow. You will learn Russian history from your guide, discover the capital of Russia with its highways, prospects and famous Old Arbat Street full of various shops, gift shops, cafes, old 19th century mansions and interesting monuments. You will also descend into the Moscow Metro which is said to be the “Underground Palace” with amazing crystal chandeliers, mosaics, paintings, marble walls, and Soviet sculptures. Become acquainted with Moscow culture and everyday life, feel like Russian!
DAY 3 – Following breakfast your private guide will meet you in the hotel lobby and will continue the sightseeing tour around the main parts of Moscow. This time you will explore the very heart of Russia – Moscow Kremlin with its red-brick walls, towers, the Tsar Bell, the Tsar Canon, lots of churches and cathedrals including the Cathedral of the Dormition, the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael where all Muscovite Monarchs from Ivan Kalita to Alexis I are burried. You will admire the grand Kremlin Palace, the Armoury building and the Arsenal on the territory of the Kremlin. This day you will also visit Saint Basil’s Cathedral on the Red Square. It is a perfect example of Russian traditional wooden and stone architecture constructed in the middle of 16th century. This tour will be performed on foot during 5 hours. Lunch is not included in the price of the tour but you may ask your guide to show you the best place to try Russian cuisine.
DAY 4 – It’s time to move further to the largest town in Siberia – Irkutsk, so after breakfast you will be transferred to the railway station and board the train which departs from Moscow at 13:50. This wonderful train trip will take nearly 3 days so make yourself comfortable and enjoy the view from the window of your compartment to Russian forests, small villages, and towns.
DAY 5 -6- 7 – You will spend these days on train. Total duration of your journey from Moscow to Irkutsk will be 88 hours. But it is a very pleasant train trip during which you can meet lots of local people and travellers from all over the world, it’s a unique opportunity to learn more about Russians and their character, see other small Russian towns on the way to Irkutsk and admire inimitable nature of Russia from the comfort of your train car.
DAY 8 – After your arrival to Irkutsk Railway Station at 11:31, you will be driven to your hotel and after the check-in you will have a free time to explore the city on your own and to try local food in a typical Russian cafe.
DAY 9 – The tour to discover the history and culture of Irkutsk now begins. After breakfast you will have a 4-hour city tour on a private transport. In the course of the tour you will see the central part of the city, the Angara River embankment, the monument to Alexander III (under his rule the Trans Siberian Railway was finally constructed), Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, the Epiphany Cathedral, the catholic cathedral and the oldest stone Church of Our Saviour. You will also have a stroll along the main street of the city – the Karl Marks Street, visit the main square named after Kirov. Continuing the tour you will drive to the Taltsy open-air Museum of wooden Russian architecture located on the way to Listvyanka village. Some of the wooden huts, schools, churches represented in the museum were built up in 17th-20th centuries by Siberian peasants. You will have a lunch stop there in an authentic Russian restaurant and a free time to walk around and visit all the wooden houses inside to learn about the living conditions, kitchen utensils and other household goods made by Siberian people. After that you will have a trip to your hotel in Listvyanka village on the shore of Lake Baikal.
DAY 10 – After breakfast you will be met by your private local guide in the hotel lobby and start your guided tour to Lake Baikal. You will enjoy the visit to the Baikal Limnological Museum where you will discover a lot of aquariums with living creatures of the Baikal Lake including the famous mammal – Baikal Seal. You will also visit the local market and try the local Omul smoked fish. After that your private guide and your driver will take you to the most picturesque area of the Baikal Lake – Cherskogo Mountain Peak (Gora Cherskogo), which is 2,297 ft. This place was named after Ivan Chersky – the Polish explorer who created first maps of Siberia. From the observation platform tourists can take pictures of the most beautiful panorama of the Lake Baikal, Angara River and various mountains and hills around it.
DAY 11 – Your day will begin with your driver picking you up from the hotel and taking you to the Irkutsk Railway station. You will start your trip by train along the Trans Mongolian Railway at 21:08, it will take you nearly 32 hours to arrive to Ulan Bator – the capital of Mongolia and the largest city in Mongolia.
DAY 12 – You will pass this day on board of Trans Mongolian Express to Ulan Bator (Ulaanbaatar) admiring the outstanding nature of Mongolia, with its hills, mountains and rocks.
DAY 13 – At 06:53 in the morning you will finally reach Ulan Bator and will meet with your private guide and driver who will organize a sightseeing tour for you. Learning and exploring the city and it’s history will help you to understand the country’s culture and its wonderful open-hearted people. You will be amazed by the city’s architecture because the past and the present are living side by side there. For example, you will have a tour to Chinggis Khaan Statue complex which located nearly 65 km drive from Ulan Bator. Afer that you will be taken to the gorgeous Gorkhi-Terelj National Park – a “must-see” for every tourist, who plans to travel Mongolia, because of its wild nature, amazing valleys, rivers, hills, and interesting rock formations which are extremely popular among the rock climbers. Terelj Park offers different types of accomodation for tourists but we recommend you to stay in the ger tourist camp, feel the local atmosphere and share conversation with other tourists. When you arrive to the tourist camp you will choose horses and start a splendid horse riding tour through the park to Nomadic Tribes where you will have a special lunch prepaired by Nomadic Family. After lunch you will have a horseback riding tour to the impressive Turtle Rock and have a walk up to the the Aryabal temple – Buddhist Meditation Temple on the top of the hill. Become inspired by these peaceful landscapes and untouched nature all around you! At the end of the day you will be taken back to spend an overnight at the tourist camp.
DAY 14 – In the morning after breakfast you will start your way back to Ulaanbaatar to continue exploring the city. Over the course of this sightseeing private guided tour you will visit Gandan Function Monastery with its huge 26,5 meters high golden statue of Buddha. In the southern part of the city up on the high hill you will find a monument called Zaisan War Memorial. It is an immense soviet-era monument which represents Russian and Mongolian soldiers who participated in WWI and WWII. Today it is also a popular panoramic plarform where you can admire the breathtaking view of Ulan Bator. After a lunch stop in a typical local restaurant you will visit the main Sukhbaatar square with massive bronze statues of Chinggis Khaan and his two sons. It is also called the Chinggis Khan Square and is considered to be the largest square in Asia. You will also have a guided tour insight the National History Museum of Mongolia and see the wax exhibition “The King of the Kings” which located in Mongolian Theatre Museum. At the end of the day you will enjoy the singing, dancing and traditional instrumental music during the Mongolian National Folklore. After the show, you will be transferred to your hotel.
DAY 15 – Following breakfast you will have a transfer to the Ulan Bator railway station where you will catch a train to Beijing. The Trans Mongolian Express train trip starts at 07:30 and finishes the next day in Beijing at 11:40.
DAY 16 – After your arrival to Beijing you will have a sightseeing tour on a private car or minivan to Badaling Great Wall. Badaling section is the most popular tourist destination and the best-preserved part of the Great Wall of China. It lies approximately 80 Km away at the northwest of Beijing. This unique section of the wall was constructed in 1504 during the Myng Dynasty. The highest observation point of Badaling is Beibalou which is approximately 1,015 metres (3,330 ft) above sea level, so don’t hesitate to climb upstairs and admire the best panoramic view from the top of it. At the end of the day your guide and your driver will escort you to your hotel and will help you with the check-in.
DAY 17 – The next day you will continue the city tour around the main landmarks in Beijing and visit the Tiananmen Square – the biggest square in the heart of Beijing named after the Tiananmen (“Gate of Heavenly Peace”). On the square you will find the Monument to the People’s Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. Then you will proceed to the Forbidden City – the largest Chinese Imperial Palace dating back to the 15th century to the times of the famous Ming Dynasty. It is also known as the Palace Museum because it served for about 500 years as the main residence of Chinese Emperors and their servants as well as the ceremonial and political centre of Chinese government. After lunch in a cosy cafe, you will have a guided tour to the impressive Temple of Heaven – a special religious complex which was used by Chinese Emperors for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heavens for peace and harvest. At the end of the tour you will be transferred to your hotel.
DAY 18 – This is the last day of your remarkable Trans Mongolian Railway Tours. After breakfast we will organize a transfer for you to the Beijing Airport.
