We had a comfortable train trip to Novgorod in August. The Novgorod kremlin and the downtown are well worth visiting. From our local tour guide I’ve learnt that Veliky Novgorod was an early Russian capital. Well worth the trip if you are in St Petersburg. Best time to travel is during summer, late spring and early autumn.
